29.6.6.5 Magnitude of change 155. The converter station is located 1.05km from the viewpoint. From this viewpoint and for a substantial section of the PRoW leading towards Hill Farm, the converter station would be largely screened by the intervening woodland at Bushey Grove. The north-eastern corner of the building may be visible at the edge of the woodland block where the large mast is visible. The scale comparison with the closer range woodland would act to reduce the perceived scale of the building. It would appear as a new and different component of this energy infrastructure cluster and the magnitude of change would be medium to low.


29.6.6.6 Significance of the impact 156. The impact of the converter station on the view would be not significant. This finding relates principally to the extent to which existing woodland screens the building.


29.6.7 Viewpoint 4 – Minor Road to Hintlesham Priory 157. There would be no impact on this viewpoint owing to the screening effect of the adjacent woodland.


29.6.8 Viewpoint 5 – Orchard Lands, near Cranes Farm 158. The viewpoint description, value, susceptibility and sensitivity of this viewpoint are described in relation to the impacts during construction in section 29.5.4. The sensitivity of the view was found to be medium in respect of residents and walkers and medium to low in respect of road-users.


29.6.8.1 Magnitude of change 159. The converter station is located 1.04km from the viewpoint. From this southerly direction the converter station would appear separated from the existing sub-station and the main concentration of pylons. This would reduce the association between these two components and spread the extents and influence of large scale development in this view. The converter station would appear comparable in terms of size and appearance to the solid part of the sub-station, such that the converter station would not appear as a wholly new or unfamiliar component.

In terms of scale, the comparison of the converter station with the much taller pylons would reduce its perceived scale. Furthermore, its location behind closer range tree cover would partially screen parts of the building and make it appear comparable to the scale of the trees.


161. The magnitude of change on this view would be medium. The converter station would be seen as a notable addition to the existing components of the sub-station
