Of the 178 lesser black-backed gulls recorded in the East Anglia THREE site and 4km buffer, 140 were recorded sitting on the water and 38 were observed flying (Table 5.28). Of the flying birds, 11 (29%) were recorded flying at potential collision height (Table 5.28).

The flight direction recorded for this species was notably in a northerly direction during the spring passage season, Figure 5.7. Birds are also observed to be potentially moving on their autumn migration, or post-breeding season dispersal, within latter months of the breeding season (Figure 5.8), suggesting breeding birds returning to wintering quarters earlier than expected. However, the sample size for each of the flight direction rose diagrams is small.
