APPENDIX C IV:MONTHLY ABUNDANCE ESTIMATES AND BIRD DENSITIES FOR COMMON GUILLEMOT, RAZORBILL AND PUFFIN IN EAST ANGLIA THREE’S 1KM AND 2KM BUFFERS ONLY AND SITE PLUS 1KM AND 2KM BUFFER
The tables contained within Appendix C iv present monthly abundance estimates and bird densities associated with those abundances within the East Anglia THREE Site’s 1km Buffer and 2km Buffer only and for the East Anglia THREE Site plus 1km Buffer and 2km Buffer abundances, respectively. These population estimates include attribution of unidentified guillemots/razorbills’ into the monthly abundance estimates and densities and for those species and that are subject to an availability bias (common guillemot and razorbill) include the application of a correction factor.
The correction factor applied to each species follows the methodology used for East Anglia ONE ((APEM (2013) East Anglia ONE Offshore Windfarm: Addendum to the Ornithology (Marine and Coastal) Chapter of the Environmental Statement. APEM Scientific Report 512763 – 01). This applies a correction factor on the basis of aerial surveys recording 87% of sitting common guillemots and 89% of sitting razorbills, as 13% and 11% respectively, of these species will be underwater when aerial imagery is captured. Therefore to correct for availability bias the ‘unavailable’ birds are added to the bird totals on a monthly basis to create revised abundance estimates.
