The flight direction recorded for this species was notably in a northeasterly direction during the spring migration season (Figure 5.5) and a southwesterly direction during the autumn migration season (Figure 5.6), with both seasons having large sample sizes. These directional patterns suggest movements of birdstowards and away from more northern colonies on their route north and south during the spring and autumn, respectively. Further flight direction rose diagrams are provided in Appendix G for each biological season. These groupings of months reflect the bio- seasons after account is taken for overlapping spring and / or autumn passage during the extended breeding bio-season.
