l The sports betting shops collections for the month of February 2015 show the biggest region is Naples (with 1,019 agencies) and with €47.1m revenue from fixed odds betting agencies, Rome €20m and Milan €15.4m.
l In total during the first two months of 2015 the sports betting sector has collected €462.4m.
l The collection from the three main provinces Naples, Rome and Milan came to a total of €157.1m.
l In Feb 2015 the online sports betting sector saw a total of €226.7m in revenue – a record amount for this sector.
The main three operators in the sports betting market are SNAI, SISAL and Lottomatica which between them had a 72 percent market share in the online sports betting sector. Today with Bet365 in the market this is down to about 50 percent market share.

Lottomatica (renamed Gtech and now IGT) holds the licence for the land based lottery sector and runs sports betting, horse racing, VLT and the lottery. Lottomatica Betting was founded in 2007 and today it has 2,000 stores under the brand name ‘Better’. In 2008 it acquired the Totosi brand for online betting. Revenue for Gtech Italy was €1.7bn in 2013 and of this €158.7m came from sports betting. In 2014 Lottomatica acquired IGT.
SNAI has a 29 percent share of the sports betting market and saw group revenues in 2013 of €478.8m. It has a 57 percent share of the horse race betting market and some 875 sport corners in 613 stores and 860 horse corners. SNAI recently announced in 2015 plans to merge with Cogetech, a major gaming operator in the market, which will increase the number of gaming machines operated by SNAI to more than 70,000.
Sisal was born in 1946 as a state operator dealing in football pools, betting, casino games, lotteries and ibingo. The company has 45,000 outlets across Italy

The total number of authorised betting shops was increased by over 2,100 in 2015 after the government authorised the operation of the so called CTDs (internet cafes operated as betting shops under a foreign online gaming licence). The CTDs will have to pay back-dated taxes and are not allowed to operate up to June 2016. But in addition there are more than 5,000 unauthorised CTDs whose future
