Extended Investigation Friction Choose one of the following investigations to carry out:
1. Formula 1 cars are designed to go extremely fast. Find out how scientists and design teams have modified these cars to reduce the negative effects of friction and improve the positive effects. Design a simple experiment to test the effect of one of the modifications.
2. Investigate the effect of different surfaces on the distance a toy car will travel after rolling down a ramp.
3. Investigate the effect that using a range of lubricants has on friction. 4. Design and build a balloon car. It will be propelled in the same way as the rocket balloon described on page 319 but it will travel on wheels along the ground. Write a sales pitch for the local toy shop encouraging them to stock your car, explaining how you reduced friction in your design and why.
