Reed Academy 6th-grade Selec Singers Taylor Shaeffer, Conductor

The 6th Grade Select Singers, under the direction of Taylor Shaeffer, are celebrating their 2nd year with a performance at the Missouri Music Educators Association Convention. 6th Grade Select Singers is an auditioned group of 30 singers. This ensemble meets twice a week after school. Last year was highlighted by a performance of Britten’s 3-2 Part Pieces at their debut concert. This ensemble sings a variety of choral literature from period pieces, multicultural music, to modern.


Taylor Shaeffer is originally from St. Charles, Missouri. He has a degree from Missouri State University in music education and a Masters in education administration from William Woods University. He is also Kodaly Level 1 certified through Evangel University. Taylor instructed vocal music at Rountree and Delaware Elementary in Springfield, MO for his first two years of teaching where his choirs received superior ratings. Taylor currently teaches at Reed Academy. Taylor also serves on the board for Boys Choir of Springfield Missouri. Taylor currently holds membership with the American Choral Directors Association, and the National Association for Music Education.


Webster Grove High School Wind Symphony Kevin Cole, Jill Young, Conductors

Comprised of approximately eighty of the highest caliber instrumental musicians at Webster Groves High School, the Wind Symphony strives to perform the most challenging, most well- respected wind band literature available. The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra is currently working directly with Wind Symphony as part of Symphony in Your School, a program which provides students with coaching from SLSO musicians. Members of Wind Symphony have performed all over the world including Austria, Germany, Ireland, Prague, and London. We look forward to traveling to Paris, France in the spring of 2018. Wind Symphony is co-directed by Kevin Cole and Jill Young.


Kevin Cole has been director of bands and jazz studies at Webster Groves High School for 18 years. He is a 1999 graduate of Illinois State University. He and his wife Kristin have three children; Miles, Evelyn, and Max. Jill Young teaches Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Music Theory, Piano and Guitar at Webster Groves High School. In addition, she coaches the Flute Choir and sponsors Tri-M Music Honor Society. Previously, Young taught in the Rockwood and Lindbergh schools. She received her Bachelor and Master’s degrees in music at Webster University.
