UMKC Conservatory Singers Robert Bode, Conductor

Conservatory Singers is the UMKC flagship choral ensemble. The membership of the chorus is comprised of 32 graduate and upper-level undergraduate vocal studies students and graduate conducting students. The Conservatory Singers has a rich history of creative programming and collaboration, and regularly commissions new choral works by America’s finest composers. This ensemble was featured in a performance of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion at the Southwest Division of the American Choral Directors Association Convention in March 2016. The ensemble’s latest CD, The Deepness of the Blue: Three Choral Cycles by William Averitt is available on the MSR- Classic label.
Robert H. Bode is the Professor of Choral Music and Director of Choral Activities at the UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance. In addition to his distinguished teaching career, Dr. Bode has enjoyed a successful international conducting career as a guest conductor in Germany, Poland, Bulgaria, and China. He is also the Artistic Director of Choral Arts, a semi-professional chamber chorus in Seattle, WA. In the spring of 2010, Bode and Choral Arts received the Margaret Hillis Award for Choral Excellence, presented by Chorus America. Dr. Bode is noted for commissioning and performing over fifty works by American composers.
Northwet Miouri State Wind Symphony John Bell, Conductor

The Northwest Wind Symphony is the premiere audition wind band at Northwest Missouri State University, comprised of students representing a wide variety of primary areas of study. Programming the best standard wind band literature, orchestral transcriptions, and marches, in addition to contemporary wind band compositions, this ensemble regularly features faculty and student soloists, and has appeared on numerous MMEA and NMEA conference programs. The band program at Northwest is committed to promoting bands in the public schools, recently
expanding opportunities for side-by-side concerts with area high school bands and encouraging band students to participate in weekly scheduled rehearsals on campus.
John Bell is the Director of Bands and Orchestra at Northwest Missouri State University. In addition to his conducting responsibilities, his duties include teaching Instrumental Conducting, Advanced Instrumental Conducting, and String Methods I and II. He also supervises instrumental music education student teachers, and is a Co-Director of the Northwest Summer Music Camp.
Ensembles under his direction have been invited to perform at state, national, and European conferences, including the Mid-West Clinic. John has received recognition as a UCM Distinguished Music Alumni, the Missouri Phi Beta Mu Outstanding Band Director Award, and the MoASTA Outstanding Collegiate Educator of 2016.
