University o Miouri-Columbia Percusion Ensemble Megan Arns, Julia Gaine, Conductors

The University of Missouri Percussion Ensemble, directed by Megan Arns and Julia Gaines, is an integral part of the percussion curriculum and presents numerous concerts both on and off campus each year. The group performs both contemporary and historic percussion works in large and small settings. Active in creating new works for the genre, the group has commissioned two works by Leonard Mark Lewis and Stefan Freund, and participated in several consortiums commissioning composers Michael Burritt and Adam Silverman. In 2014, the group was selected as the only collegiate percussion ensemble to perform at the prestigious Midwest Clinic.
Megan Arns is Assistant Professor of Percussion at the University of Missouri. An active performer and commissioner of new music, Megan regularly performs nationally and internationally with three contemporary chamber groups. Additionally, she is the editor of PAS’s Rhythm! Scene and co-host of the podcast @Percussion. Dr. Julia Gaines is Director of the School of Music at MU, but joined the faculty in 1996 as the Director of Percussion Studies. As a performer, Dr. Gaines has been a soloist throughout the U.S. and abroad. Her first pedagogical book, Sequential Studies for Four-Mallet Marimba has become internationally known.
St. Joseph Christian School Junior/Senior High Band Joe Voga, Conductor

St. Joseph Christian School is a private Christian school located in St. Joseph, Missouri. This fall, the school set a record enrollment with 98 students in the high school. Since 2014, the band has grown from 5 students in the high school band and 13 students in the junior high band to the present, combined band of over 40 students. With visionary leadership and support from the board and administration during this same period, the band received over $40,000 in gifts for instruments, a 500% budget increase, a dedicated fine-arts hour, and has achieved superior honors in State festivals.
Joe Voga is in his sixth year of teaching and in his third year at Saint Joseph Christian School after spending 14 years out of the classroom. His responsibilities include directing the fifth grade through senior high bands as well as teaching junior high Bible classes. He also serves bi-vocationally as the founding pastor of New Harvest Baptist Church in Agency, Missouri. Prior to entering the ministry, Mr. Voga served as the director of bands for the Westran School District. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
