Oakville High School Wind Symphony Vance Brakefield, Conductor

The Oakville H.S. Wind Symphony has a long tradition of excellence. This rich history is attributed to our founding principles of continual improvement and individual development. They have performed at numerous conventions and festivals including the Western Illinois Showcase of Bands, Music For All National Concert Band Festival and eight times at the National Adjudicators Invitational. This year they will be making their sixth appearance at MMEA, attending MFA Metro East Concert Band Festival and traveling to Washington D.C. for the opportunity to perform in The President’s Cup National Concert Band Invitational with The U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own.”
Vance Brakefield began teaching at Oakville in 2006 and undertook his current role in 2010. A native of Oklahoma, he received his BME from the University of Tulsa and his Masters in Educational Leadership from Oklahoma State University. He and his wife, Genelle, reside in St. Louis with their children Cooper and Wynne.
Theron Perkowski is in his seventh year of teaching at Oakville. He is a graduate of Truman State University, where he received a BA, MA in Music, and a MA in Education. He lives near Oakville with his wife Rachel and their 11 month-old son, Trevor.
Lee Expreive Arts Explorers Elizabeh Tummons, Conductor
4:15 p.m.
The Lee Expressive Arts Elementary Explorers include the entire fourth- and fifth- grade population at Lee Expressive Arts Elementary. Music classes meet once a week for 50 minutes. Students have music lab once weekly for 40 minutes. Lee has one optional non- auditioned choir after school once weekly, and two non- auditioned drumming ensembles before school. Mrs. Tummons is proud of the program at Lee Expressive Arts Elementary as it highlights integration of the fine arts to aid in teaching all content standards. Lee Elementary believes that learning through the arts best prepares children for life.
Elizabeth Tummons, a native of Columbia, received her undergraduate degree in music education and masters in curriculum and instruction from the University of Missouri- Columbia. She achieved certification from Evangel University in Kodaly Levels I, II and III, and in Orff Level I from University of Missouri-Saint Louis. She taught K-12 general music and band classes in Missouri for 16-years. On weekends, she is pleased to be a conductor for Columbia Youth Choirs, the youth extension of Choral Arts Alliance of Missouri. Mrs. Tummons is thrilled to join the Lee Expressive Arts Explorers in their second performance at a MMEA conference.
