President. This session is surely not to be missed! Please bring your instruments, play along, and explore all of the fantastic new music out there for string orchestra. As always, there will be snacks, delicious desserts, drinks, and coffee!! As I mentioned before, I can’t think of a better way to spend an hour or two of my time.
Not only do we have exceptional string sessions this year, our music selection committee has selected outstanding ensembles to perform. There is a middle school string orchestra, a high school string orchestra, a high school symphony orchestra and a college symphony orchestra. See pages33-57 for a complete list. As you can see, there is something for everyone at the 2017 MMEA Conference in January. I am looking forward to it, and I’m looking forward to seeing you all there!
SPRAGUE, from pg. 13
Finally, I would like to share something with you that will hopefully remind you why what you are doing day in and day out is important. We have a kindergarten student with special needs that is non-verbal. Throughout the year the band has been marching to “Hey, Baby,” and dancing and singing in the middle of the tune. This young man watches every day, either at the door, inside with us, or outside when we are marching. One morning a couple of weeks ago, his mother came in before school and with tears in her eyes told me that the night before and that morning her non-verbal child was singing “Hey, Baby” in the car. Singing! If that doesn’t demonstrate the power of our conference theme, “The Language of Music,” I don’t know what does. Best wishes for the holidays. See you in January!
