When not working out,breathe in the heady aroma of the property’s cele- brated gardens. The Entry Garden offers privacy-placed plantings, teak furniture and a slate floor. Woodland Garden is a picture of the old South with magnolias,holly and
cypress.The Kitchen Garden supplies the inn’s chefs with herbs and lettuce. Reminiscent of formal English gar- dens, it also presents pansies, sweet peas and roses.
Jen Shatwell, strategic communica- tions consultant for the Inn at Perry Cabin, is one of its most ardent fans. “You would think by now I’d be numb to all we have, but that’s not possible. Before I worked here, I was a patron and continue to love it. It is located in a gem of a town and guests feel as far away as Nantucket or the Virgin Islands. Many White House and con- gressional staffers come here to escape, and so do St. Michaels’ resi- dents. There’s nothing like our resort.”
Shatwell applauds Stars restaurant.“It’s the only four-star restaurant on the
Eastern Shore. Chefs source locally grown produce and seafood. One of the hardest things to tell guests is they can’t have crab cakes all year long. That is a good thing, because it rein- forces the freshness of our food,which is grown no further than 150 miles from St.Michaels.”
She underscores that everything is tailor-made for groups who select the Inn at Perry Cabin for meetings and events.“After bringing a group for the first time, numerous planners come back year after year. They never forget their time here - and I truly understand why. I find I have to force myself to leave the inn.”
Shatwell shared a story to exemplify the extreme care guests receive at the property. “Recently a busload of fami- lymembers traveled to the Inn at Perry Cabin by Belmond from Brooklyn,NY, to celebrate their matriarch's 70th birthday. It was a somewhat sponta- neous adventure,and the bookingwas only made a week out.”
She continues,“This family comprised numerous individuals - from toddlers to seniors - of varying levels of adher- ence to Orthodox Judaism. Given that the birthday girl's big day fell on the Sabbath, and to ensure everyone's comfort,the teamat Inn at Perry Cabin worked quickly to accommodate.”
Upon the bus' arrival, a lineup of the inn’s staff were outside to welcome the family. At check in, a brief ques- tionnaire was provided to each family member seeking any special requests. For example, one family requested that the Inn at Perry Cabin’s staff leave the lights in their suite on or off as they found them upon turndown because their customs forbid touch- ing anything electric after sundown on Friday.
