The center partners with national com- panies to provide utility, audio-visual, telecommunication, and catering servic- es. Greening initiatives and sustainability are very important here, too.

In September of 2015, the Baltimore Convention Center was awarded certifi- cation from the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Venues Standard for green meetings. The certifi- cation is a part of the Convention Industry Council’s (CIC) Accepted Practices Exchange (APEX) initiative. The CIC developed these industry-wide accepted practices to create and enhance efficiency throughout themeet- ings, conventions and exhibitions indus- try.

As the birthplace of the national anthem and the commercial railroad system, Baltimore is home to a number of promi- nent historical sites.

The city’s historical roots play into more than 150 attractions, while tours and cruises ferry visitors around its eclectic neighborhoods and famed Inner Harbor. Baltimore continues to make history through visionary concepts like the Light City festival, which is the nation’s first large-scale event of light, music and innovation.

The downtown area is the core of major conventions and events, and is home to major league sporting arenas and games. Neighborhood retail and restau- rant businesses have experienced tremendous growth here, elevating Baltimore to the ninth largest downtown retail area in the country.

Baltimore’s culinary scene has trans- formed the city into a must-visit food lovers’ destination, as well. Though best known for its steamed crabs and Chesapeake specialties, a melting pot of cultural flavors has emerged here along- side a growing craft beer and cocktail scene. Dining spots range from casual pubs to lavish waterfront restaurants offering five-course meals, along with everything in between.
