NEWS FROM THE OFFICE UPFRONT IN TUNE 2016

RELEASED SaskMusic’s newest double-al- bum compilation was released in the fall. This year’s edition is a 2-CD set featuring 40 stel- lar tracks by some of Saskatch- ewan’s best musical artists, many of whom are currently engaged in national and/or international export initiatives. The project has

been created for promotion and distribution primarily to music indus- try professionals around the world, including to media, talent buyers, music supervisors and labels. It will be travelling with SaskMusic and our artists to national and international market events such as Reep- erbahn (Hamburg), BreakOut West (Regina), Americana Music Confer- ence (Nashville), Iceland Airwaves (Reykjavík) SXSW (Austin), Canadian Music Week (Toronto), The Great Escape (Brighton), and many other events that SaskMusic has a presence at throughout the year. It’s avail- able as a stream to the general public (see www.intune2016.ca) and to the industry as digital downloads and a physical release. It includes representation from a diverse assortment of musical styles; artists were selected by a music industry jury, following a general call for sub- missions across Saskatchewan.

NEW: CO-WRITING ROOMS

Coming soon! SaskMusic is launching a monthly, collaborative songwriting series in Regina and Saskatoon for our members. It’s been an idea that’s been floating around since we received such an over- whelmingly positive response to our last Songwriting Masterclass.

This ‘event’ will be facilitated one Sunday per month. 3-4 songwriters per city will be matched together for a 2-3 hour co-writing session. We hope to get interest from songwriters with interests in all different genres and at various skill levels. We’ll provide a comfy space, snacks and beverages, and a facilitator; you bring the creativity and an open mind!

The goal will be for writers to try writing with people they may not have approached on their own, to build new relationships, gain ex- perience in collaborating and co-writing, and generally advance their craft by stretching themselves in new ways.

For those who participated in past master classes, songwriting chal- lenges, or Nashville writing rooms, it’ll be a similar idea. Once we have a sufficient number of writers signed up to participate in a given city, we’ll launch the first date there. We are open to doing this in any loca- tions that there is enough interest shown.

The first step is to see how many songwriters are interested. To sign up, visit www.saskmusic.org/programs/songwriter-activities.

SONGS & STORIES

We were pleased to sponsor a series of “Songwriting Stories” events with the Regina Public Library’s Central Branch for the past several months. These monthly events featured a songwriter talking about songwriting and playing some songs in a casual setting for the public. The initial run of the series has now concluded.
