RELEASED SASKATCHEWAN ALBUMS & EPS

UMXY: Connecting Flights UMXY is the amalgamation of two artists: Ursa Maja and Yoast. The duo aspires to push the boundaries of hip hop music with their refreshingly authentic style. As a solo artist, Ursa Maja has released several projects, and contributes raw and imaginative lyricism. Yoast is an up-and-coming producer who works tirelessly to find and combine new sounds for his unique beats. This debut 6-song EP is full of dogmatic themes with fresh sounds, and is essentially a musical expression of ‘the Millennial Condition.’ Set to resonate with those passionate about truth - no matter how beautiful or how ugly that truth may be. Recorded at: Nebulus Entertainment, Moose Jaw. Produced by: Jared Robinson. More: www.facebook.com/umxy1315

HATTIE: Karate Hattie is the newest project from Saskatoon resident Jason Hattie; know previously as Von Hattie from the German Techno group 911 Turbo. Taking a break from playing in other bands, multi-instrumentalist Hattie took this down time to fine tune an album and his sound. His debut LP emerges as an upbeat but overcast new wave record that offers reflections on his youth. With dramatic vocals, driving organs, electric guitars, and drum machines, Hattie’s new sound comes from combin- ing a love of vintage tones with his experimental and raw pop vocals. Creating an album of unique new wave earworms. Recorded at: home studio, Saskatoon. Produced by: Jason Hattie. More: www.hattiemusic.com

SOILED DOVES: self-titled Soiled Doves are an anti-religious, politically charged punk band consisting of Justin Laszlo (rhythm guitar/vocals), Tay- lor Stevens (lead guitar/vocals), Bob McLellan (bass), and Adam Horvay (percussion/drums). 2016 was a huge year for the band, releasing this 7-track EP, along with a highlight tour to Vancouver to play the Todd Serious/The Rebel Spell Tribute show at the Rickshaw Theatre. Soiled Doves has stayed true to an angry punk rock sound for 10 years, with an infamous live show worth checking out. Recorded at: Blue Door Recording, Regina. Produced by: Justin Bender. ANDREEA THE NARRATIVE: Haunted Former Lives Andreea’s sound is a mix of the coffeehouse and Canadian indie rock. With the modest success of her debut 2013 release, “The Narrative,” Andreea found common themes in her music and lyrics with the contrast between life/death, light/dark and finding one’s way in the post modern world while also finding happiness. Haunted Former Lives features vivid story- telling, catchy yet well-crafted lyrics, and crisp, clean 12-string tones. This release takes from her previous works and builds on the foundation, creating an emphasis of Andreea being true to herself and her craft. Recorded at: Workhorse Recording Company, Saskatoon. Produced by: Troy S.G. Denet and Jordan Spahr. More: www.andreeathenarrative.com

BLACK THUNDER: III Black Thunder’s music builds in the borderlands between the labyrinths of progressive rock guitar riffs, boggy ‘70s hard psych basslines, and the amphetamine alleyways of proto-glam drumming. “The threesome spent two years prepping this collection of Sabbath-thick riffs, progressive rock beatdowns and wildfire guitar licks. Throughout, you can check out the manic tilt-a-whirl beats and gloomy vocal melodies of ‘How to Wake Man and Her Son While You Criss Cross Your Bill’ and “a shake-scented mosh crush called ‘Ripped Out of Your Face.’ “– Exclaim.ca. Recorded at: Down The Hatch Studios, Regina. Produced by: Anthony Frank and Orin Paquette. More: www.facebook.com/blackthunder.ca

SURF DADS: Summer Vacation This long distance recording project (originally based in Los Angeles and Saskatchewan) of duo Gage McGuire and Chris Dimas has had a busy touring schedule, but that didn’t stop them from recording their fourth EP in July 2016. The Summer Vacation EP was birthed out of boredom. In between tours, the gents realized a full year had passed since releasing any music. With Chris off the road for 3 days and in true Surf Dads fashion, they decided that was enough time to make a re- cord. Described as “Weezer on speed,” Surf Dads play fast and loud, often leaving the stage bruised and bleeding with bro- ken guitars to match. Recorded at: home studio, Regina. Produced by: Chris Dimas. BROCK ANDREWS: Eight This is the debut 8-song solo album from the Saskatoon contemporary country songwriter/artist. After writing successfully in a number of genres, he found himself relating to songs that could stand on their own in a stripped-down format through good storytelling. Andrews grew up with folk roots but was also exposed to ‘90s rock, and eventually developed a feel for the likes of Blue Rodeo and Garth Brooks. The album has a lively feel which translates well in his energetic live performanc- es. Andrews was one of 10 songwriters Canada-wide selected for an Ole “On the Spot” pitch during the 2016 CCMAs. Recorded at: B-Rad Studio, Regina. Produced by: Brad Prosko. More: www.brockandrewsmusic.com
