EXPORT ACTIVITIES & PARTNERSHIPS

AMERICANAFEST SEPTEMBER 20-25/16, NASHVILLE TN

Each year, the Americana Music Festival & Conference brings together legendary artists, the next generation of rising stars, and industry pro- fessionals for four days of music and education. It features numerous panels, seminars and much more, proudly providing Nashville’s most educational music industry forum. This special event covers the inter- ests and needs of artists, managers, labels, radio stations, publishers, agents, promoters, retailers, legal and business affairs executives, mer- chandisers and new media professionals - all enthusiastically attended and presented by music industry leaders.

SaskMusic returned to Tennessee for the 17th annual Americana Music Festival & Conference. Continuing with a series of successful collabora- tions with Manitoba Music, Alberta Music, and BreakOut West, we pre- sented two private showcase events to the Nashville music industry under the “BreakOut West Events” banner.

First, on September 20, the invite-only Music Row Dinner, for a cu- rated list of approximately 30 Americana VIP delegates including local Nashville industry, was held at Bound’ry event centre, Nashville, and featured an artist from Sask.’s Amy Nelson, MB’s Brett Boivin and AB’s Sykamore. We were at capacity, and the artists were very well received at this intimate dinner. Amy was selected for participation through an open call for submissions by SaskMusic and industry jury.

The second event, the BreakOut West BBQ on September 22, was an official sponsored showcase on the Americana program and was open to the public, with a food truck providing free supper to our guests (as is the standard for these events at Americana). Amy Nelson per- formed once again, as well as AB’s Sykamore and MB’s Leaf Rapids. This was also well-attended and artists went over well with delegates in attendance.

While in Nashville we attended numerous conference panels and at- tended the showcase events of, and networked with many sister or- ganizations and colleagues including CIMA, SXSW, Folk Music Canada, etc. For more on the event, visit www.americanamusic.org.

SaskMusic was on the ground to network, attend activities and sup- port our Saskatchewan showcasing artists. The Garrys and Ponteix were selected by M for Montreal organizers after applying directly through the festival’s submission process.

RAME NOVEMBER 7-8/16, MONTREAL PQ

SaskMusic was a partner of Manitoba Music’s Rame à la rencontre de l’industrie de la musique francophone, an industry showcase, one- on-one industry meetings, and networking opportunity being held in Montreal, November 7-8. The event offers the Francophone music community a rare opportunity to connect with industry tastemak- ers from independent Canadian and European labels, showcase their talents, and learn about the business of breaking into Francophone markets. This was the third Montreal edition of Rame; Manitoba Music has also presented Rame in conjunction with the Festival du Voyageur in Winnipeg.

This initiative is presented in partnership with Coup de Coeur Franco- phone, a massive cross-Canada festival that brings together national and international performers in a program lineup that features up- and-coming, bold, and creative artists.

The Rame Showcase on November 7 featured Shawn Jobin and Eti- enne Fletcher, along with Manitoba’s Justin Lacroix and Rayannah. Additionally, Sask. artists who performed in connection with CCF were Alexis Normand, Michel Lalonde, Ponteix, and Étienne Fletcher.

AUSTRALIAN MUSIC WEEK NOVEMBER 2-4/16, CRONULLA BEACH AUS

SaskMusic was pleased to undertake our first export mission to Aus- tralian Music Week (http://australianmusicweek.com) in Cronulla, New South Wales as part of a BreakOut West initiative, and in partnership with the Canadian Independent Music Association (CIMA) and East Coast Music Association (ECMA).

Amy Nelson and Poor Nameless Boy were selected for performance slots by Australian Music Week organizers through a BreakOut West call for submissions. SaskMusic attended to participate in networking opportunities with industry colleagues, attend the conference and support our showcasing artists.
