Born in a snowstorm in a pickup truck somewhere near Anaheim SK, it was destiny that singer/songwriter SAMMY ROSE would end up on the road. After a local talent search and a recording contract with Royalty Records, Sammy put a band together and hit the road running. She ran smack into awe- some guitar/steel guitar player Jack Hollenberg who became her life and
musical partner. After a few years playing in Western and Central Can- ada and six months in Nashville, the pair was off to Europe for 8 1/2 years of adventure. During that time they wrote, recorded, and enter- tained for festivals and parties over the mainland, then they headed back home to Canada. They lived in Alberta for a while and are now are settled in Lanbenberg SK. Sammy and Jack have recorded six al- bums and are working on number seven, “Life’s Kaleidoscope”, in their Silk & Steel studios; it’s due for release February 2017. Local musicians Charlotte Neyedley on bass/background vocals, and Adam Keough on percussion are helping out (

CHRIS HENDERSON released new single “My Regret” to Ca- nadian country radio on January 17. The song was co-written by Hen- derson and Troy Kokol, and produced by Brad Prosko Productions. It’s the second radio single that was penned by Henderson and Kokol; “Don’t Miss Your Kiss Goodbye” (also with Willie Mack) peaked at #47 on the BDS charts, and won the 2014 SCMA Award for Song of the Year. Chris has been busy as usual, joining a chilly Rogers Hometown Hockey show in January, opening for Jess Moskaluke on New Years’ Eve at Casino Regina, and will be part of the national cast once again for Telemiracle 41. Henderson’s third studio album “The Charm” is set to be released in February (

We were very sad to learn of the too-soon passing of bassist
STEVE BUNKA on November 9. Steve was well respected in the Saskatchewan music community, touring extensively as a member of the Touchtone Gurus (including headlining our Flatland Music Festi- val one year). He will be greatly missed.

BELLE PLAINE is traveling to Kansas City MO for an Official Showcase at Folk Alliance International in February 2017. She will perform with her regular band of Elizabeth Curry on bass and Jeremy Sauer on keys. The trio played their first Regina Symphony Orchestra
show in December, joined by drummer Steve Leidal. Belle Plaine was the grateful recipient of a Saskatchewan Arts Board Independent Artist’s grant, which allowed her to develop four original songs for that performance; the songs were scored by Steve Leidal and Drew Jurecka (Jill Barber). She is currently preparing for her next studio album thanks to generous funding through Rawlco’s Project 10K20. Belle and Blake Berglund hit the road together for a BC to SK tour in November/ December, joined by guitarist Bryce Lewis. A highlight of that adven- ture saw them opening for Dwight Yoakam at Conexus Arts Centre. The duo has also released a new music video, a cover of the classic “Mercuy Blues” (
