JESS MOSKALUKE was the top spun Canadian female artist at Canadian country radio in 2016! “Take Me Home” is at #34 on the 2016 Mediabase Year End Country chart and was the #5 most-played Canadian country song at Canadian country radio for the year. Our condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of artist and songwriter LORRIE ANN (CHURCH) POITRAS, who passed away on January 31. Lorrie will be remembered for her men- torship of up and coming artists, was a Saskatchewan Country Mu- sic Award-winner, and nominee for National Aboriginal Achievement Awards and Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards.

2016 Moose Jaw Scotiabank Songwriter’s Showcase winner


EMILY ORESCANIN is a 16 year old pop/rock songwriter. She grew up writing songs on a piano and has since gone on to learn many instruments. “LaDiDah,” recorded at Nebulus Entertainment with producer Jared Robinson, is her first single, and an anthem for people who pursue what they want in life especially when others try to bring them down. She writes with influences old and new, from The Beatles and Carole King to Joan Jett and Paramore. Emily is preparing to release her debut EP in late March (http://emilyorescanin.com).


BRODIE MONIKER, a 15-year music veteran (PandaCorn, Brain Sauce, Fancy Diamonds), is a diverse musical talent with so- phisticated songwriting, artistic arrangements, and progressive-pop presentations, also well-established as a side musician and recording engineer. His debut album “Nowhere Left to Ghost” is due March 25; first single “Push Play DJ” has just come out. Accompanied by Drake Mark (Lords Kitchner) on drums and Steve Leidal (Johnny 2 Fin- gers) on bass, Moniker is touring Midwestern Canada and prepar- ing the roads, Oregon Trail style, for his upcoming debut album tour (www.brodiemoniker.com).

RAWK ENTERTAINMENT GROUP had a busy second half in 2016 helping produce aspects of the Canadian Country Music Awards Week in London ON and the Western Canadian Music Awards/ BreakOut West in Regina. Co-founder Derek Bachman was posthu- mously honoured with the 2016 Kevin Walters Industry Builder Award at the WCMAs, and Rawk Entertainment Group won the Impact in Live Music Award at the same event. Chris Tessmer, formerly of Sur- real Productions, joined the Rawk team full-time in November. The new year has been equally busy for the Regina-based company as they were hired as the official talent buyer for O’Brians Event Centre in Saskatoon, complementing their existing work as the official talent buyer and production managers for Casinos Regina and Moose Jaw. Producer of the annual Beer Bacon Bands festival, #BBB2017 saw nearly 3000 people through the Conexus Arts Centre over two nights at the end of January. Work also continues in preparation for the 2017 Canadian Country Music Awards Week in Saskatoon this September (www.rawkentertainment.com).

JASON CULLIMORE picked up a 2016 Western Canadian Mu- sic Award for Classical Composition of the Year, and then on October 16, members of the Regina Symphony Orchestra conducted by Vic- tor Sawa premiered his stunning new score for the iconic silent film “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari” (1920). Jason also received a nomination in the Contemporary Classical category of the 15th Independent Mu- sic Awards for “Along the King’s Road” (www.jasoncullimore.com).


THE STEVES released FaceOff; the track is inspired by ‘90s action movie of the same name. Composed of members of Library Voices, The Florals, Oiseaux, Wolf Willow, and a number of other incestuous Regina acts, they draw influence from artists like Jay Reatard, Jona- than Richman, and Randy Newman. Playing simple pop songs at the tempo of a panic attack. The track is also included on SaskMusic’s 2016 In Tune compilation (https://thestevesss.bandcamp.com).


In late November AMANDA HAGEL released a Christmas al- bum, “Listen With Your Heart.” The album features unique and uplifting renditions of songs such as “Mary did You Know” and “Where are you Christmas.” A video for the title track was produced by Strike Films and filmed at Garden Architecture & Design in Saskatoon (www.aman- dahagel.com).
