UPFRONT NEWS FROM THE OFFICE
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO US! 2017 marks a big milestone for SaskMusic: We are thrilled to have made it our 30th Anniversary of incorporation! We’ve got a few fun new things in the works to celebrate - starting with a couple we’ll an- nounce in this newsletter. Thanks for being with us!
REGIONAL WRITERS’ GROUPS
SONGWRITERS’ ASSOCIATION OF CANADA MONTHLY GATHERINGS
The Regina group meets monthly in our Regina office (1831 College Ave), hosted by local singer/songwriters Scott Anthony Andrews and Wanda Gronhovd. The next meeting is February 16 at 7pm, followed by every third Thursday of the month. Everyone is welcome!
The Saskatoon Regional Writers’ Group, led by Micheal Lander and Jay Semko, meets monthly at Studio XII, 9-1026 Boychuk Drive. They meet the first Sunday each month. Space is limited; visit https://www.
facebook.com/saskatoonsongwriters for more info.
These groups are a great way for members to connect with other songwriters in the community. The time is usually spent working on songwriting skills together and sometimes sharing a song or two. All genres and skill levels are welcome to attend. For more info on the Songwriters Association of Canada, visit

The third season of Creative City Centre’s Empty Room Series is open again for applications! The series is a partnership between the Creative City Centre, SaskMusic and CBC Radio in Saskatchewan. Selected art- ists are recorded, both video and audio, in the empty Hague Gallery at the Creative City Centre. The audio track may be aired on CBC Sas- katchewan, and the video will be posted on the Creative City Centre’s YouTube Channel. Creations are available for artists to use as they see fit to promote their careers.
Head here to view previous seasons:

LET’S GET COOKING! Musicians and food: what a stellar combination!
In celebration of our 30th Anniversary, we’re hoping to put together a music & food cookbook, featuring recipes submitted by our great Sas- katchewan artists and musicians. Do you have a great BBQ method to share? Your mom’s handed-down chocolate chip cookie recipe? A roasted-potato-au-gratin that’s to die for? Please submit it!
If we receive enough content to move forward, we’ll be publishing a high quality retail version in time for the 2017 holiday season.

LOVE ROCKS vs LOVE SUCKS
PLAYLISTS Is Valentine’s Day a painful re- minder of heartbreak, or a con- firmation of your bliss? Love it or hate it, it’s coming soon! To celebrate these opposing points of view, SaskMusic has curated two very different playlists online featuring original Saskatchewan music. These playlists are on the radio player on
www.saskmusic.
org and on Spotify playlists (where songs are available) titled “Love Sucks” and “Love Rocks.”
We are still accepting submissions of songs that would fit on either a “Love Rocks” or “Love Sucks” playlist:
https://saskmusic.wufoo.com/ forms/love-suckslove-rocks-playlist-submissions/
Saskatchewan artists who have recorded songs that lyrically re- late to either topic are invited to submit them for possible inclusion. SaskMusic pays SOCAN royalties under Tariff 22 for music used on our website.
CAREERS IN MUSIC UPDATE
We had the opportunity to take part in the ‘See Your Future’ career fairs, and had booths set up at the Regina and Saskatoon events. Thousands of students took part, and we saw a ton of interest from students looking to expanding their involvement in the music in- dustry. We had more than a hundred students sign up to receive our e-release!
We also took part in the ‘Bowlt Forward’ career fair which took place at Tommy Douglas and Bethlehem High schools in Saskatoon. Prior to visiting the booths, students got handouts with “suggested questions” to help them get the most from presenters. It made the students in- credibly engaged and made for some great conversation!
We also had the chance to visit Nutana College in Saskatoon to de- liver our Careers in Music presentation. The students responded so well, that we stuck around for an extra hour and answered questions throughout the lunch hour! If you’re interested in bringing us in to talk to a class or to take part in a career fair you’re involved with, please email
brittney@saskmusic.org or call 1-800-347-0676.
SNAPCHAT!
We’ve added Snapchat to our list of socials. It’s a trial run, so please give us a follow and let us know what you think! Our username is ‘SaskMusic’.
