REEPERBAHN

SEPTEMBER 21-24/16 HAMBURG DK In partnership with BreakOut West, Alberta Music, Music BC, Mani- toba Music, CIMA

SaskMusic was pleased, for our fifth time, to attend the Reeperbahn (www.reeperbahnfestival.com) under the BreakOut West Event brand to present receptions, networking events, attend business-to-business meetings and participate in Canadian Blast showcases on behalf of the Saskatchewan music market.

Saskatchewan artists DGS Samurai Champs, Poor Nameless Boy, and Surf Dads were hand-picked by Reeperbahn organizers and per- formed as part of the Canadian Blast-Canada House lineup, for all three it was their debut performance at Reeperbahn. Surf Dads’ ap- pearance was part of a 35-date European tour. Poor Nameless Boy continued with a UK tour after the festival. In all, 29 Canadian artists were scheduled to perform at Reeperbahn.

Our events began in Berlin on September 20 with a Pre-Reeperbahn event consisting of intensive panel discussions with the German music industry on distribution and marketing, sync licensing and brand part- nerships, live music market, and the digital music market in Germany. The event was followed by a networking showcase. A second net- working event with B2B (Business to Business) meetings with the Ger- man and UK music industry followed on the morning of September 21 at the Canadian Embassy in Berlin. SaskMusic and representatives for each of the showcasing artists were in attendance for these sessions, presented in partnership with the Canadian Independent Music Asso- ciation (CIMA).

We then departed for Hamburg to present the BreakOut West Reeper- bahn Reception on September 22 at Canada House (held at Kukuun) in Hamburg, followed by two days of showcases with Western Cana- dian acts. DGS Samurai Champs, Poor Nameless Boy, and Surf Dads showcased on September 22 at Canada House as part of the Canadian Blast showcases.

Following Reeperbahn, we continued to Poland for a series of meet- ings with local music industry professionals, and where we presented “Canada vs Poland” for the second annual year, on September 26. The event presents a combination of Polish and Canadian artists together in an industry showcase. Representing Saskatchewan at the event at DZiK was Surf Dads.
