Dear Readers

Love is in the air here at Guild News! With Valentine’s Day approaching, this is an excellent time of year to maximise on those who want to treat their partners to a pampering session, and a clever marketing campaign will direct those who need some inspiration towards your business.

Plus, many women would love their other halves to experience a luxurious facial or manicure treatment so don’t make your Valentine’s marketing exclusive to feminine treatments.

But this is also a great time of year to fall back in love with your business or career. After the hectic months at the end of last year, you may have experienced a quieter January. Now, with Spring to look forward to, February is the ideal time to spend some quality time working on your business or career.

If you’ve been flirting with the idea of starting your own beauty business or opening your own salon, why not spend some time looking into how feasible this is. Do you have what it takes to make a full time commitment?

If you feel you would benefit from undertaking additional training or adding a new therapy to your repertoire, there are literally hundreds of training providers and courses available that will offer something that’s perfect for you. Find out more by visiting the College Guide section of BeautyServe’s Directory listings.

And if your passion needs reigniting, a visit to this season’s trade events, where you can network with thousands of other like-minded salon owners, therapists and nail technicians and feel the buzz about the industry we love, is sure to be just the spark you need!

Best wishes,

Melissa Dennis, Editor

Calling all therapists

The Guild News team is calling all complementary therapists who would like to help make a difference, to volunteer at this year’s Chill Out Zone taking place as part of the annual Holistic Health show.

The COZ has become a regular feature of Holistic Health, and often the first port of call for many visitors attending the event, as it gives them the opportunity to trial taster treatments of complementary therapies that they may be considering introducing to their salon. What’s more, the COZ raises funds for a worthy cause each year, and to date has donated over £25,000.

“We are always astounded by the number of therapists who volunteer, and whilst we are very grateful to our therapists who return year after year, we’d like to invite any other complementary therapists who would like to volunteer, to join us this year,” says GN editor Melissa Dennis.

The event takes place on Sunday 22nd and Monday 23rd May at the NEC in Birmingham, and any complementary therapists who would like to participate should contact Emma Hackett at Emma@BeautyServe.net for more information.

Geraldine Howard

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Geraldine Howard, chairman and co-founder of Aromatherapy Associates, who died aged 63 on 7th January following a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Geraldine and co-founder Sue Beechey launched their aromatherapy range over 30 years ago, with their treatments available today in Spas and resorts across the world as well as products retailing in outlets such as Liberty, Fortnum & Mason and Selfridges.

“A sought after speaker, panellist and writer, Geraldine was celebrated for her huge contribution to the industry,” notes a company statement. “Over the years, Geraldine received countless prestigious accolades; just last November she was awarded a ‘CEW Achiever Award’, whilst in December she took the honour as ‘Leading Woman in Wellness’ at the Global Wellness Awards.

“She was also recognised as one of the best loved people in Beauty and Wellbeing and her enthusiasm and drive was second- to-none. It was always Geraldine’s mission to tell the world how incredible essential oils are and she saw Aromatherapy Associates as more than a business; it was her way of life.

“Geraldine’s life philosophy was to treat people well, always be fair and live a full life with no regrets. She was an incredibly hard worker and even through her personal battle with cancer she always remained involved in Aromatherapy Associates, ensuring the brand remained focused and committed in its development of innovative, results-driven products.”

Our thoughts are with Geraldine’s family and friends, along with the Aromatherapy Associates team.
