2016, and Our Poets ARE LEAVING US JOHN ROWLANDS With Leonard Cohen passing
unexpectedly in November, we are reminded once again how important he was to our creative lives through his words and music. The shock of hearing of his death, like Bowie and Prince, hits us hard. explaining my mission to his baby-sitter who answered the door, I was told that there would be no photography that day because Leonard had just returned from having his four wisdom teeth pulled and had taken some pain killers and gone to sleep. I told her I would proceed to my hotel,
check in, and wait until he felt up to it, and that the next day or two or three would be OK as I had a budget for the unexpected and could stay. Shortly after getting comfortable in
my room at The Queen Elizabeth Hotel I received a phone call from Leonard telling me to come back and that we would indeed be taking pictures that afternoon. The photo session lasted for two
hours and we chatted about where he felt comfortable and the look we wanted and shot
accordingly..........four hundred shots resulted.
