RETIREMENT continued from pg 25
John Stokes (Phoenix Homes), Terry McDougall (Rogers Radio) and Walt Scott( Retired). We play a friendly game of “Wolf” and the competition is fun with a few bucks being won or lost every week. Since retirement, I am also able to play with the Senior golf group every Tuesday morning. This past season, Walt Scott and I organized the Tuesday get together with 30 plus seniors. We enjoyed the comradery and made the game fun and not too serious for us aging a little faster than others. Since I now spend as much of the winter as possible in Florida, I joined Pebble Creek golf club just north of Tampa. It is one of many courses in the area but I love playing this little gem every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning with approximately 30+ senior golfers at the club and have a great rap- port with them. The staff from the pro shop led by Brandon Cuddy, his dad Jeff and the staff at Mulligans Pub (the watering hole at the golf club), are super friendly and accommodating. One of my favorites besides the golf is the fact that you can buy a beer at the end of the game for 3 bucks and the second one is free. Of all the golf courses I have
played, beside Pakenham Highlands, I still feel that Eagle Creek in Dunrobin
and Loch March in Kanata are among some of the finest courses in the Ottawa Valley.
Outside
of the Ottawa Valley, Black Bear Ridge in Bellville and Smugglers Glen in Gananoque are pretty spectacular as well. As far as the Florida Golf is concerned I love the day-to-day at Pebble Creek but I would have to say Bella Collina in the Claremont area is without a doubt the toughest and most scenic I have played.
Traveling The fourth ING in my retirement is Traveling and so
far Bev and I have done our fair share with many more trips and adventures planned for the near future!
Our first trip after our retirement, we took a trip to Ireland for a 13 day tour which left lasting memories of a great Island that we shall never forget; yes the grass is a magnificent and dif- ferent color of green with every turn! I also was fortunate enough to enjoy a fly-in fishing trip to Labrador with a few days before and after to enjoy the island of Newfoundland as well. The details of both of these stories can be read in previous editions of Bounder. Of course driving to Florida every winter have been great opportunities to see and experience some of the beauti- ful things that our neighbour, the USA,
has to offer; the Blue Ridge mountains, driving through the Carolinas and get- ting to the Masters in Augusta Georgia. Spending Christmas day on the beach at Anna Marie Island near Sarasota was another great memory. We have plans to visit many more places on the way to and from Florida over the next years; Nashville, Smokey Mountains and places in between.
So as you can see you have to have
a plan! Without it, you will just sit on the couch, bored and waiting for time to pass. I can honestly say I am enjoying my 4 INGS in retirement but right now I have to go because I am on the tee in an hour…no I am heading out to fish pick- erel…no I am up for a bow hunt. What- ever it is I had better get goING!
