1:15pm - Hauser Estate Winery www.houserestate.com

Stunning views of Adams County await along the hilly prominence of this 360-degree glass tasting room and win- ery on Gettysburg’s outskirts, and so does Jack’s Hard Cider, which is mulled on-site – all 120,000 gallons of it.And to think: I used to be a beer guy! With each spicy sip I appreci- ate the cider’s crisp nuances more and more. The vistas remind me of NapaValley. The products, though, are pure Pennsylvania.

2:20pm - Seminary Ridge Museum www.seminaryridgemuseum.org

One of CivilWar’s most historic buildings,Seminary Ridge Museum, which began as a Lutheran seminary, bore front row witness to the Battle - from its collection of rooms on up to its lofty pergola (which was a key lookout point for Union soldiers).

Once a field hospital, the large masonry edifice now special- izes in group events.Floors here are supposed to creak. Three-dimensional dioramas are meant to visualize the

sobering realities of its living past. The museum offers a step back in time and, if you listen hard enough, you may even hear the echo of shouting soldiers and cannon fire.

315pm - Historic Gettysburg Hotel www.hotelgettysburg.com

At Lincoln Square in the very heart of Gettysburg, the city’s oldest hotel (1797) is newly-renovated,and it holds 118 styl- ish rooms and 9,000-square feet of meeting space. Its ball- room – which once served as a bank – still has a steely giant vault at its far end.The hotel and its storied past is an ever-present part of Gettysburg, if not a structurally-emblem- atic representation of the town and its people.

Final Takeaway www.destinationgettysburg.com

Destination Gettysburg, the region’s visitors bureau, plays the consummate host. Its representatives take the utmost pride in showcasing their hometown and its history, and they seem to have an above-and-beyond eagerness-to-help acu- men that transcends the typical meeting experience into a most memorable one.
