outdoor kitchen setup… We’d been wanting to do something with our garden for a while. And the arrival of two small boys forced us into removing the pond (we loved the wildlife it gave us, so will restore it when they are older). Eating and entertaining outdoors have always been part of our family life, and so an outdoor kitchen and seating area was a must. As a keen baker I’ve had an outdoor

wood oven for a few years, but it stuck out like a sore thumb on our patio and I wanted it to be integrated into a worktop and preparation area. Te worktop ended up being about five metres long for the design to work, and so we sunk a metre wide grill for those big family barbecues into the centre. At the end of the worktop is a raised bed to grow herbs to use in our cooking. On the opposite side of the worktop is


a seating area with an open fire pit in the middle. A second raised bed behind the seating makes the space enclosed, while very much being part of the garden. It’s worked out well. It really helped


to sit on the plans for a couple of years before we did anything as we constantly tweaked the ideas until we got something we were really pleased with.
