T e Melplash Agricultural Show is the one day show not to be missed! Being located on the coast at West Bay near Bridport, it successfully celebrates the best of agricultural and rural life by the sea. It is not only a showcase for West Dorset farmers and food producers, but also gives those that are not familiar with farming a rare opportunity to fi nd out more about what is involved and where food comes from. With entertainment all day in the Toolstation main ring and the countryside area, over 350 trade stands and superb children’s entertainment, it truly is a fantastic day out for all the family. Farming and agriculture are at the heart
of the show, with visitors able to watch the judging of the animals. T e team will be building on the success of their Discover Farming marquee: a must-visit for adults and children alike who are interested in learning more about food production and farming. Children of all ages will be able to get hands- on experience in a range of ‘Farm to Food’ activities, with a whole host of interactive

demos and more on the day. Amateur chefs can also enter the show’s
Best Scotch Egg competition. Entrants simply need make two Scotch eggs using a recipe of their choice, with judging taking place from 9am. Prizes include an £80 voucher for the Station Kitchen in West Bay, and the entry form can be found on the show’s website. Adult tickets are priced at £16, while all
children 16 years and under go free.

Powderham Food Festival is now well and truly established on the South West foodie trail, taking place on the fi rst weekend of October with the spectacular backdrop of Powderham Castle. A celebration of regional produce, the Festival will feature hundreds of exhibitors, culinary wizardry from some of the region’s top chefs (Tim Maddams, Peter Gorton and Richard Hunt, to name a few) and great entertainment for all the family.
