Let’s not forget.. whilst we may worry where our next fish is coming from, this little chap fought hard against leukaemia

During the last week of

May, the Czech Republic became a centre of carp fishing. For the very first

time, the World Carp Classic Junior (hereinafter WCCJ), the world championship in carp fishing, was held

at the Lake Katlov. Not only does this give junior teams from around the world the chance to experience the competition environment, but also to raise funds for

CLIP (Childhood Leukaemia Investigation Prague) of the FN Motol Hospital. When Jakub Vágner and

Ross Honey started to think about this idea lot of people didn’t believe they’d be able to make it happen.

But, where there is a will, there is a way

DOING IT FOR THE KIDS

Competition, Charity, Juniors and

Families All Come Together in The World Carp Classic Junior 2015

Part of the Angling Spirit vision is to make the whole world of fishing available to all ages, genders, races and abilities. Working over the last 17 years with the Angling Spirit

ethos of fairplay, sustainable angling, and best practice catch and release, so that we will all have a heritage of fishing to fall back upon in our moments of need for the great outdoors. Ross Honey, Angling Spirit and their stable of World

Angling Classics are working towards that legacy, international angling events enjoyed by all anglers and their families. For many years, perhaps unbeknown to most of the angling fraternity, Ross has been a tireless worker helping those less fortunate than ourselves. This year, he has broken his silence and created an ambitious charity event that brings together the separate strands of the Angling Spirit ethos, and woven them into one fabulous new event, The World Carp Classic Junior. This event not only showcases the young talent that

is up and coming across the carp fishing community, it brings together age groups, creating small families within the one giant WCC family. Not only that, it also

succeeds in the stated intention of giving something back to those less fortunate. This year over €40,000 have been raised for the Children’s Hospital and its leukaemia sufferers who are in the same county as the venue of Lake Katlov, in the Czech Republic. Over the next few pages are the stories of how

this event unfolded, up against a deadline, how determination, and an unbending will to succeed not only created, but also delivered the World Carp Classic Junior 2015. Czech Republic journalist and author, Radek Holub

relays the ‘official’ story of the WCCJ event. How 14 teams from around the world competed for three gruelling days, with its dramas, trials and tribulations and how the event finished by raising money and awareness for Children with Lukaemia and the local hospital. Also interspersed and featured are the separate

stories of how one man helped, and in doing so, gained a place in the tournament, but also how his became one family in the bigger, international WCC family.

AND SO TO BATTLE: RADEK HOLUB GIVES A BLOW BY BLO
