ANDY CHAMBERS HEAD MARSHAL WCC2015

Andy Chambers, Head Marshal and his boys will be back in town, making sure the tournament is run friendly, but fair way. Andy also runs us through some of the changes to the venue and some of the new rules that need

BACK IN TOWN ‘‘

MARSHAL’S

It still seems hard to believe that it is nearly 4 years ago that I left Madine following the successful 2011 edition of the event, I wasn’t

sure then whether or not I would be back to the lake, either to fish there or for another event. Of course, in the intervening years the

Classic has been held at Lake Bolsena in Italy and what a truly great lake that is with some jaw dropping, spectacular common carp being caught. I’m sure that we will be going back there again sometime in the future, in the same way as we’re popping back to Madine now and to sample its equally spectacular mirror carp which have no doubt grown even bigger over the last few years. Lake Madine is a really great lake, but

for various reasons it is not fished that much for its lovely carp which means when the World Carp Classic rolls into town and puts on an event there, then there’s still some mystery as to what could be caught during the event. Madine still holds the WCC record for the biggest carp caught to date, but it wouldn’t it be great if it could go one better and break its own record with a carp over a 30kg, I’ve got a sneaky suspicion it may well do this year, remember you read it here first! The event is also going to be slightly

different this year with only the three biggest carp caught by a team to count, this should throw the question of where the competition could be won from wide open. Add in the fact that the small

area which produced the winners for the competition from 2008 - 2011 will not be pegged means it could be won from just about anywhere around the lake. I have only fished Madine on a couple of occasions, once on ‘Jetfish’ island and the other time in the area known as the ‘dark side’. Both seem unfancied areas when it comes to competitors choice of swims, but both areas have produced big fish for me, with the 3 fish rule, they could be real winners. Also take into account the fact that the lake really hasn’t seen any carp fishing pressure over the last few years and the carp could have spread out to new areas, so my advice is don’t rule out any area, there will be surprises! A visit to the lake back in July was a

real eye opener, there have been some major changes since 2011 with new

facilities, restaurants and bars that I am sure the competitors will find appealing, added to those improvements is a new bivvy city area. All in all, a complete move to the other end of the lake for pre- event activities which really will be a nice change. Whilst from a distance the lake looked much the same, once I started to explore some of the old sections, it soon became apparent that many of the swims had become overgrown, so much so that it was impossible to see where they had once been, so there will be a lot of work needed to open up the swims for the anglers. One area that hasn’t got overgrown, nor needs cutting back, is the dam wall. This hasn’t been used in the competition whilst I have been helping with the organisation of the event, but I understand that in the very beginning of
