On watch! I want every competitor to treat the marshals with respect and I will come down hard on anyone who doesn’t

the event back in to the late 1990s it was. I didn’t peg the dam wall during 2008 - 2011 because it might have been tricky for competitors when using the boats, but it is such a good area that I had to agree with Ross when we decided to include it in this year’s event. It probably won’t be the most comfortable fishing along there, but do you want to win the event and become WCC champions or are you simply out for a nice five day camping holiday? Remember big water carping can be tough at times, so go prepared and you will be fine. During the visit it was noticeable that

the weed didn’t appear to be quite as bad as it had been in the past, now this might have been because it was still only early July and the worst of the weed growth was still to come. We shall have to see, it

may help that we are holding the event a few weeks later than in the past, so if the weed has grown up during August it still has time to start dying off before the event. Again, be prepared to tackle the weed and the problems it can cause.

Now I suppose it would be wrong of me not to mention a little about the rules which haven’t been changed to any great extent, but I need to warn you of a couple of rules which I shall be tightening up on this year.

The first one will be the distance some

competitors seem to think is acceptable to have their rods away from the peg board. If you don’t know the answer, then it is 3 metres left or right, that is all and you really need to remember this as I won’t be giving out any warnings this

year, but will give any team flaunting this rule a straight yellow card! Distance is also a rule that many

teams have a problem with and will go to any lengths to fish beyond the distance boundaries that are put out around the lake. This year the team of marshals will be even better equipped with night vision and other equipment to help catch those that want to cheat. Anyone caught will be punished accordingly; I really don’t like to give out red cards, but am more than happy to do so for those that deserve it, you have been warned! I will take this final opportunity to

welcome you back to Madine, to meet old and new friends, fish well, obey the rules and have a great time.
