Christmas Bag Appeal Success
This year’s Christmas Bag Appeal for the children and residents of the Emaús group has been a fantastic success. This very popular appeal has again brought the community together and the generosity of the local people has astounded the staff and carers at Emaús.
The Self Sufficiency Project
For some years we have been supplying food and other essentials for the local Emaus children’s homes and a home for mentally handicapped youngsters with 24 residents. The task has been a challenge but we have been supported by many local residents, businesses, schools, radio stations and the press, without whose support, this gargantuan task would have been impossible.
Our latest project is to make the group as self sufficient as possible by using existing land and equipment, which we have taken out of mothballs and produce fruit and vegetables to supply the homes. This project, as well as cutting down the need for us to raise funds to buy this produce, also gives the residents a feeling of self respect and usefulness.
Picking Vegetables
As it isn’t possible to sponsor the children, 1200 olive trees have been planted and we are offering these for sponsorship at 50€ per year. The funds will go towards fertilizer, petrol for existing machinery, a water pump and pipes and general maintenance as well as paying suppliers of meat, frozen foods and other daily needs for the homes.
Donations of useful items, presents, clothes and food have been flooding in and the carers of each of the homes have been able to choose the perfect present and clothes for each of the children in their care. The school supplies, toothbrushes, toothpaste and gels etc will be distributed to each of the houses in the new year.
We would like to say a huge thank you to all the drop-off points, social media, press and especially the very generous Costa Blanca community for supporting the Christmas Bag Appeal over these last few months.
Recently our team of volunteers cleaned, painted and repaired some chicken coops
Chickens Happy
ready for 60 new chickens which provide free-range eggs for the homes. You can also sponsor and name a chicken for 10€ which will help pay for them and provide feed and health checks. We already have a few sponsored chickens with names including Harley, Davidson, Fred, Oliva & Pepe, Ellie, Jim, Mick & Kath!
So, be a part of the project and sponsor your tree/chicken or just make a donation towards food, heating, 120 birthdays throughout the year and other essentials for the homes by visiting our webpage:
