Lancashire - Ribble Valley Local Feature
Malkin Pie - Possibly the spookiest pie in the world!
C Y
hristine and Keith from San-witches of Sabden, a mere 20 minutes from Ribble Valley, tell us of the pie they
created to celebrate the ‘Great Feast’ of Malkin Tower.
Based on ingredients thought to have been consumed by the witches at the Good Friday ‘Great Feast’ of Malkin Tower, comes Lancashire’s famous Malkin Pie. Lamb was one of the better known contents of the feast as it was recorded that James Device, the grandson of Dem-dike, stole a sheep from a farm in
Barley. It is also thought that the Malkin coven feasted on beef, bacon, and wicca dumplings made of suet and herbs. Malkin Pie is made using totally fresh local produce - it is a hearty pie for lovers of fine local ingredients and truly home- made fayre. Served hot or cold it tastes best when accompanied with our specially created Spiced Red Cabbage Chutney. Since its launch on the 400th anniversary of the Feast of Malkin Tower, people have come far and wide to savour this regional delight. It is truly original and has centuries of history attached to it.
