ROBUST MINCE PACK COMPETES WITH FFS
A lightweighting project at LINPAC Packaging has enabled the company to compete against the inline thermoforming (Form, Fill, Seal) market for the fi rst time and offer packers a more robust solution in particular for fresh mince packs. Linpac has been working in partnership with several machinery manufacturers, packers and retailers to develop a key initiative to signifi cantly reduce the weight of some of its trays, and downgauge its LINtop lidding fi lms, whilst ensuring they retain product performance and quality. Project LIFE (LIghtweighting For Excellence) has led to such signifi cant reductions in material usage that the LINPAC rigid rPET tray and LINtop fi lms combination now offers a real alternative to packers using the standard form fi ll seal technology in terms of overall running cost and design fl exibility.

There has been a misconception within the industry in recent months that only certain competitor metal detection equipment complies with M&S requirements. A lightweight shallow rigid tray developed by LINPAC Packaging for vacuum skin packing has helped a family-owned supermarket chain drive up sales of its meat products by 80%. LINPAC has worked in partnership with machine manufacturer Mondini and fi lm manufacturer Bemis to create a
pack which combines the extended shelf life benefi ts of vacuum skin fi lm technologies with the presentation and protection benefi ts of rigid preformed trays for Booths stores. After admiring VSP solutions on offer at other retailers, Booths decided to move from modifi ed atmosphere packaging for some of their meat products and asked LINPAC to develop a solution for them. At least, the design team at Measom Freer think so. They are announcing the addition of a 300ml size to the Dumpy bottle range. The name perfectly describes the shape of this bottle, manufactured from stock in clear PVC. The collection is available in 30ml (Ref 6114) with 18mm R4 neck, 60ml (Ref 6216)
with 18mm R4 neck size & NEW 300ml (Ref 6183) with 28mm R4 neck size. Originally designed as an amenity bottle, the range has proved so popular that larger sizes are now being introduced starting with the 300ml, and a 150ml size is to be added shortly. Measom Freer also stocks a wide range of caps and closures to fi t these bottles including fl ip and disc caps; spray, gel & lotion pumps; and tall, spouted and dropper caps. Screen printing in one or several colours is also available to complete the desired look.
