CODING & LABELLING Non-stop drinks labeller
LABELLING experts Etiquette re- cently supplied a bespoke, non- stop labelling system for Princes Soft Drinks. The Label X 140 RM twin will help the company achieve a high speed non-stop production throughput for their range of juices, according to Eti- quette.
The machine, which is able to apply labels up to 140 mm wide at speeds of up to 80 metres per minute, is constructed primarily of stainless steel and anodized aluminium, making it robust for use in even the harshest environ- ments. Utilising two micro-pro- cessor controlled, stepper-motor driven Label X RM label applica- tor heads with touchscreen HMIs, the machine includes an auto- switching functon which funda- mentally reduces down time. At the top of both label appli- cators sit amber warning alarm functons alertng the machine op- erator when a label roll re-fl l is re- quired, this functonality ensures a smooth applicaton process,
helping the company achieve an end product to be proud of, with- out stopping the line. In today’s market, packaging applicatons require reliable op- eraton and print accuracy. Qual- ity is crucial due to the demands placed on suppliers by major re- tailers and supermarkets, where stringent quality control and pre- cise scanning of barcodes and labels leaves no margin for error. The majority of scan errors are due to poorly printed or unread- able barcodes which often result in a complete rejecton of a deliv- ery, leaving suppliers with numer- ous pallets of unwanted products and a damaged reputaton.
Cloud-based repository aids
spot-colour reproduction X-RITE Pantone and Sun Chemical have made it easier for smaller printers and converters to access PantoneLIVE™ libraries that cover the majority of substrates used in the packaging industry, including corrugated brown kraft, transparent fi lm, carton board and labels. X-Rite Pantone now offers several turnkey solution packages including PantoneLIVE licenses so that any printer or converter can access the 22 PantoneLIVE libraries to meet the needs of customers that want to harness the effi ciency of cloud-based, spectral color data. The new turnkey solution will also be available through Sun Chemical, PantoneLIVE’s preferred ink supplier.
Sun Chemical’s global color platform allows every ink color to match exactly with PantoneLIVE and is fully integrated with PantoneLIVE. This system enables the user to operate seamlessly in a fully digital workfl ow to produce real colors on real substrates with real printing processes. Printers and converters have sought access to the PantoneLIVE system because the cloud-based repository of spectral data allows them to reliably produce PANTONE™ spot colors across various packaging substrates, which reduces time at prepress, saves money in production, and creates a better customer experience. Using the PantoneLIVE system, international packaging giant Chesapeake Ltd, based in Leicester, UK, said it was able to reduce the number of issues with customers by 80 percent, along with reducing the total number of wet ink drawdowns for projects and shortening the time involved in a drawdown from 4 hours to as little as an hour.
