ILSA Chapter Happenings

Furthermore, UM ILS has been host to myriad successful events over the past year. Last se- mester alone, we hosted three profound events: an event on “The Growing Area of Space Law”, an event on the “Sikh Temple Tragedy”, and an event on “Law and its Effects on International Business Trade.” The University of Miami is currently look- ing to expand into the area of Space Law; there- fore, UM ILS assisted this promotion by hosting an event on Space Law, which elicited a room overflowing with interested parties. Thereafter, we hosted an event on the “Sikh Temple Tragedy” to raise awareness about the lack of the political upheaval after the Sikh Temple shooting and the implications that are raised by this apathy. Finally, we held an event to focus on international trade to explain the impact of working in Miami, as Mi- ami is a current hub for Latin American trade.

UM ILS is proud to say that it has had a very suc- cessful year and looks forward to another year of the same.

of international career resources and opportuni- ties for internationally-minded students. Last but not least the Chapter would like to recruit more students attracted in international law topics.

Chapter would like to get in touch with the Slovak Society of International Law, which works within the Slovak Academy of Science, Section for Inter- national Law. The main reason for that is to estab- lish a mutual cooperation with the Society and to keep in touch with current international law hap- penings. This cooperation should encourage the Chapter to build strong cooperation relations with the other international law relating organizations acting in Slovakia on external level.

Despite the Chapter’s small size, its members are intent to organize the Slovak national round of Jessup Moot Court Competition 2014 hosted in Law Faculty of Pan-European University, being held in February-March 2014. We have been suc- cessful with the Chapter´s educational project, which enable us to cover some expenses as a financial aid from Foundation of Tatra Bank, NGO for the Slovak Jessup Team 2014.
