Freie University Berlin is a leading research institution. It is one of the German universi- ties successful in all three funding lines in the federal and state Excellence Initiative, thereby receiving additional funding for its institutional future development strategy. Freie University can thus take its place as an international network university in the global competition among universities.
The Berlin program is focused on helping stu- dents learn about the important and emerg- ing field of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR, but is unique in that it also teaches students how to negotiate and mediate in a cross-cultural setting. Half of the program’s students will be American and the other half will be international students from around the world.

Cost includes classes in Cologne, time spent in Paris and Brussels, a Rhine River cruise through the World Heritage site of wine valleys and 40 hilltop castles, the birth house museum of Beethoven in Bonn, a guided tour of the Augustusburg Palace at Brühl and visits to the local courts and city hall. In Brussels, students will visit the EU government. Option- al externships are available upon successful completion of the three week program.
Bucerius Law School is the first private university for law in Germany. Located in downtown Hamburg – simultaneously Germany’s second-largest metropolis and its greenest city – the Bucerius Law School offers international students a one-term Program in International and Comparative Business Law. All classes are in English.
This cutting-edge course examines the patent, trademark and copyright laws of western Europe, as well as the European and international systems for intellectual property protection. The course provides some comparison to the U.S. intellectual property laws. The classes are designed for individuals with no prior coursework in intel- lectual property.
