ILSA Chapter Happenings

brought international law to a new level by engag- ing more discussions in the classrooms and orga- nizing field trips to various organizations. With the help of the high caliber professors of Kuwait Uni- versity and with their constant encouragement and support, the Society was able to participate with their students in humanitarian and environ- mental projects.

In spirit of widening the society’s international scope, the members went on a scholarly trip to UAE. In the trip they visited various international and national legal institutes. They have also had the honors in visiting Dubai’s International Fi- nance Center Courts, where they were invited to join their summer training program.

They also had the pleasure of visiting DLA Pip- er, one of the world’s most leading law firms, in which we discussed future cooperation with the law firm. With these great incentive launching points, the society continued with its success by cooperating with a local law firm and organizing an internship for its members. With activities that include participating in a Model United Nations Conferences and the Annual Debate Competi- tion, we can only say that Kuwait’s International Law Society is determined to have yet another successful year. This year the society wants to focus more with engaging in activities outside Kuwait. We are currently organizing internships for law students at different law firms around the Gulf as well as looking into conferences they can attend throughout the year.

The Society also seeks to participate in interna- tional moot court competitions, as well as en- couraging academic competition. Henry Ford once said that “Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; and working to- gether is success.” Kuwait’s International Law Society came together in the beginning, they kept together where they progressed and they worked together to bring a new meaning of suc- cess in their society.

UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI ILS

University of Miami School of Law Miami, Florida USA

Abirami Ananthasingam, President

The International Law Society of the University of Miami School of Law (“UM ILS”) has been fo- cused on providing a showcase of cutting-edge, controversial and diverse presentations on in- ternational law topics that have been impacting our legal community. Furthermore, UM ILS has been involved in ensuring that our constituency receives ample opportunities to network with in- ternational law practitioners.

On the events front, on October 1, we co-spon- sored a lunch panel featuring the former US Am- bassador to the United Nations, John Bolton. Ambassador Bolton’s lecture focused on the topic “America In The World: The Obama View.” Ambassador Bolton discussed the United States’ recent political endeavors and his view on the contrasting regimes of Former President Bush and Current President Obama.

Furthermore, we hosted Professor Claudio Fin- kelstein, a renowned Brazilian arbitrator, as he discussed the current influx of arbitration in Latin America. Additionally, we are currently in the works of planning an event to host Ambassador Areikat of the Palestinian Liberation Organization, in order to facilitate a scholarly discussion on the current conflict in the Middle East.

In terms of networking, we hosted our 4th An- nual International Wine Tasting Networking Event at Rosa Mexicano. The event was a wonderful op- portunity for fellow colleagues and practitioners to network. In the future, we plan to host a Multi- Cultural Bar Association Networking Event to en- courage the intermingling of various Bar Associa- tions so that our members could identify areas of interest for practice and so that they may build a community of their own.
