WRETF bursary scheme supports work in developing countries

A bursary scheme has been established by the World Radiography Educational Trust Fund (WRETF) specifically targeted at radiographers, radiological technologists, assistants and teachers working in developing countries. The bursaries will enable professionals to attend

conferences or visit training centres, hospitals or other institutes to undergo training and generally further their knowledge of radiography. Up to four bursaries

in a year will be made available. Information and application forms can be found on the website at www.wretf.org.

Radiographer contributes to new e-Referral Service

An informatics specialist, currently working on a temporary contract at Bart’s Health, is contributing to the design of the NHS’ new e-Referral Service (formerly Choose and Book). Radiographer Anant Patel, a member of the Society’s IM&T group, has been accepted to sit on the NHS e-Referral Service Stakeholder Design Council. “The Council is looking at ways to enhance the Choose and Book system,” he explains. “We’ll be considering its successes and lessons learnt, as well as ways to improve the quality of this experience for patients and NHS staff.” Anant was the first AHP representative on the Council,

and says he wants to ensure that radiographers have input into the vision for the new e-referral service. “In order to increase functionality and usability, it is vital that IR(ME)R considerations are met and that diagnostics have input at an early stage of development. “Radiography/imaging services have had relatively complex information systems incorporating electronic order communications, scheduling of appointments, vetting, image viewing, clinical reports and information reports. Therefore it’s important that radiography is not an afterthought in this transition to a paperless way of working for referrals, whereby any service may potentially refer to any other service.”
