A team of CT and MRI radiographers, Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals Trust, was nominated or its “miraculous” efforts in pushing the service forward through role extension and its hands-on approach to patient care. “Radiographers are expected to undertake all of the examinations that fall within the remit of the department, including cannulating their patients and administering IV contrast agents,” explains nominator Sarah Jenkins.

The radiotherapy team at Leeds Teaching Hospitals landed two awards for its outstanding work providing better cancer treatment for patients. As well as being part of the Yorkshire &


North Trent Team of the Year, team leader Louise Wem received a separate award as the Y&NT Radiographer of the Year. “Louise and her three colleagues are dedicated to patients and improving the care they receive throughout their cancer journey,” says manager Julie Owens. The patient support team “relentlessly” repositions the patient experience at the centre of all new developments in order to maintain the privacy, dignity and quality of experience for all.

The MRI department team at East Kent University NHS Trust, was nominated for its commitment to patient care during a period of rapid change. “The radiology department was


reorganised last year to incorporate two new MRI scanners,” explains David Brown. “The team pulled together to provide a seamless service despite the intense pressure, supporting A&E and scanning neurology, head and neck, body, gynaecology, MSK, vascular, trauma and oncology patients.”
