There was a fantastic response to this year’s World Radiography Day as departments stepped up to raise the profile of the profession. The excitement was shared via Twitter and Facebook as photographs, radiography facts and history, and messages of support flooded in. Well done everyone who took part – you’re amazing!
World Radiography Day 2013
Gemma Bourne, SoR rep at Ipswich radiotherapy department, organised a cake stall and raffle to raise nearly £200 for the department. Gemma went to great lengths to promote the profession in a positive and interesting way and the news was spread on Twitter. All in all a fun day.
The Berkshire Cancer Centre at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust set up an information stall for staff, patients and visitors to the department. It displayed the progression of the radiotherapy department over the last 30 years and how technology has advanced for the benefit of patient care in therapeutic radiography.
The radiographers in the department wore custom WRD t-shirts and badges to further promote the event which was a great success.

"The discovery of x-rays in 1895 has been instrumental in inspecting materials for hidden flaws," says Naomi. "The team collaborated with a radiographer from an industrial services company to discuss his role in the world of radiography. Industrial radiography has grown out of engineering, and is a major element of non-destructive testing.
