t’s summer, so what better reason to get out in the garden with the kids and get wet? Now, before you
lovely water-conservationist types get all water-worried, don’t panic! We don’t mean spraying hoses
around the garden for hours on end, we means water pistols, water bombs, watering cans and other such things – enough for a good water chase! Having a water fi ght is a great way
to get the kids (and the dog) up and moving during the summer months – and your lawn won’t mind it either. It doesn’t need to involve expensive
water guns or costly toys either – fi ll up left-over party balloons or, use a yoghurt pot with holes in the bottom of it. It’s easy, fun and cooling.
Changing the Landscape of Education
Who would believe Llanwern High School has been open for a year? The new facilities have made a massive impact on teaching and learning and this year the school is anticipating record breaking results. Head teacher, Peter Jenkins, said: “The transformation of the whole school has been quite incredible and it has been a privilege to be part of it. “The school has made quite an impact on the learning environment for the pupils and there has already been a noticeable improvement in pupils’ desire to succeed, educational attainment and opportunities.” Llanwern High School student, Shea Oldfi eld, added: “A £30 million school – now we know why it cost so much, but it was worth every penny.

school is out of this world.” Gone is the old uniform replaced with smart blazers, giving pupils a real pride in their appearance. The new school provides pupils and parents with confi dence – CCTV and gate security systems provide full security for all pupils, while the school has been designed with staff open plan offi ces and open plan toilets, helping prevent anti-social behaviour.

technology with which to be taught and the school meal cashless card system reduces the stigma of free school meals. The fi rst year has been
