EATING OUT WALES

The Rising Sun

Welcoming, family run and family-friendly, The Rising Sun in Newport is one of the area’s most loved pubs, offering excellent food and much more besides.

L

ocated on Cefn Road, in Rogerstone, The Rising Sun changed hands in March 2013, with long-time manager Mark, and his wife Jayne,

taking the helm. Having managed the pub for more than 25 years

Mark is a well-known face to the pub’s regulars and knows the place inside out. Open seven days a week, food is served every

day for both lunch and dinner. Between noon and 2.15pm from Monday to

Saturday a selection of hot counter meals is available with delights such as homemade steak and mushroom pie and lasagne available. On Sundays the pub offers a superb carvery lunch from noon until 3pm. With a choice of three meats

and unlimited vegetables this Sunday lunch option requires no booking – just turn up and enjoy! Every evening, the kitchen

at The Rising Sun offers a wonderful a la carte menu. If you dine between 5.30pm and 7pm you can

enjoy The Rising Sun’s buy-one-get-one-half-price offer on all dishes from the a la carte menu. Evening service runs between 5.30pm and 9pm

from Monday to Saturday and from 3.15pm to 7pm on Sundays. The Rising Sun is spacious with room for large

parties and family celebrations – why not call and ask Jayne or Mark how they can best accommodate your get together. There is plenty of free parking and its convenient

location and superb bed and breakfast facilities lend themselves nicely to visitors arriving in the area for the event. Aside from excellent food, the Rising Sun is a

great place to go for a quiet coffee during the working day.

With free WiFi you can carry on working as you

enjoy something to eat or a swift caffeine injection. There are regularly changing guest ales on the

pump, with recent popular choices including Betty Stoggs and Milkwood by Brains and every Sunday evening is quiz night – a great, fun night with a fabulous atmosphere.
