PERFORM... // IT’S KAM
The Mighty ‘Port! Wow! The mighty ‘Port is going from strength to strength at the moment! Newport County AFC can now look forward
to next season in The Football League after a lush win over Wrexham! If you’re a fan of the Amber Army then the
past few years have been EPIC! One of my highlights of the last three years
was defi nitely their promotion to the Conference National in 2010. I was so lucky to have been at The Newport
Stadium to watch them beat Havant and Waterlooville 2-0. On top of everything else it was awesome not to lose to a team called Havant and Waterlooville! And just to put it in perspective, they won
that game and automatic promotion with seven games left to play! So all power to you Newport County AFC! And Newport hit the headlines again last
month, this time for the Celebrity Cup at Golf Live, which took place over the weekend of May 10.
I went on the fi rst day, the Friday, and
– despite the weather – had a great afternoon. From the celebs taking part to the on-course
commentator it was just a brilliant even and what a setting! The Celtic Manor never fails to impress me! I also didn’t have to pay for a single drink!
Nah, I didn’t go VIP or sneak into hospitality either. I simply feigned interest in every single
exhibitor with a stand. While they go on about the plush greens and
fairways on their latest course in the Bahamas they give you a beer or glass of wine, which they top up when you surrender your e-mail address! The one fl aw in my plan was giving them my
genuine e-mail address because the state of my inbox on the following Monday was a joke! I have never been so
popular with the golfi ng fraternity!

EXTRA DATES FOR NEWPORT’S ‘CALENDAR GIRLS’!
Good news for everyone who is looking forward to Newport
Playgoers’ production of Calendar Girls in June. Due to public demand, the
Playgoers have added two extra performances of this poignant, moving and much-loved play. It will now run from Monday,
June 10, to Saturday, June 15. There will also be a ten per cent discount for group bookings of ten or more people.
“Calendar Girls is an extremely popular play and we’ve had so many people asking for tickets we’ve taken the unprecedented step of adding these two extra dates,” said
the play’s director, Kevin Myers. “In order to ensure that all
Playgoers members are certain of a seat on their preferred night, we are asking them to inform the box office to avoid disappointment.” The Playgoers will also be
bringing out their own calendar in the style of the original produced by the Yorkshire Women’s Institute, which shot them to fame both at home and abroad. Featuring members of the cast, the calendar will be on sale soon, and from the sales, the Playgoers will be making a donation to the leukaemia charity the original WI ladies supported.
