IGAM OGAM GETS HER OWN STAGE SHOW!
// Igam Ogam, the much-loved children’s television character, takes to the stage this summer in a vibrant and fun new theatre show touring Wales. The bubbly cave girl, who stars on S4C and Channel 5’s Milkshake, features in her very own action- packed stage show that combines real-life performers with puppets, a colourful, interactive set and plenty of singing and dancing that will enchant young audiences. A Coreo Cymru and Wales Millennium Centre production in association with Calon TV, The Igam Ogam Show marks a new direction for Wales Millennium Centre, as the landmark Cardiff theatre moves into producing its own theatre shows, as well as hosting them. The production – which is suitable
for children aged two to six and their families – follows the mischievous little cave girl who likes nothing more than hanging out with her friend Roly. But as the pair bounce and tumble around her cave one day, Igam discovers a new friend… her shadow. Carole Blade, Creative Producer
for Welsh dance organisation Coreo Cymru, was inspired to create The Igam Ogam Show by her two lively sons, aged five and four. She says, “I take my children to the theatre as often as possible. It sparks their imagination and I love seeing how engaged they get with the whole experience. “The interaction between live
@wearevoice
performers and the audience is especially obvious with children’s theatre – when the performers start to move so do they,” she adds. “It’s magical and one of the reasons I wanted to produce a funny and highly physical show for little ones.” Igam Ogam, played by Pontypool dancer Lauren Lee Jones, and her sidekick Roly, played by Orris Gordon, will be joined on the stage by puppets of other favourite characters from the Igam Ogam show, under the guidance of puppeteer Rachel Canning, a former student of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. The tour will feature both Welsh and English versions of the show. A fun and catchy soundtrack will come from composer Julian Martin, who also wrote the music for the animation. The striking and visual set, which resembles a multi- levelled pre-historic obstacle course, has been designed by Abergavenny’s Sean Cavanagh. He has worked on high profile West End productions including Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Louise Miles-Crust, Head of Programming at Wales Millennium Centre, said: “Theatre is a magical experience for young children, introducing them to live entertainment and creating happy memories. Having
hosted countless excellent children’s theatre productions over the last nine years, Wales Millennium Centre is delighted to now be co-creating its own family-friendly shows. We look forward to welcoming Wales’s youngest theatre-goers to what promises to be a fun and energetic show and we are delighted to be working with Coreo Cymru.” Performances will be at The
Riverfront, Newport on Thursday 4th July (10am, Welsh; 4.30pm, English). 01633 656757 for tickets. It will also be at The Grand Theatre, Swansea on 22md and 23rd July - 01792 475715 and also at the Wales Millennium Centre on 1st, 2nd and 3rd of August. Call 02920 636464 for times and tickets.
