The long-term future for Methanex in Medicine Hat looks bright


“Methanol is found in numerous household products including the paint on walls, plywood subfl oors, the polyester and nylon in carpets and furniture, DVDs and CDs, and silicone sealants,” says Cliff Janzer, Plant Manager at Methanex Medicine Hat. “The fastest growing markets for methanol are in the energy sector.”


A $30 million distillation expansion project is underway at the Medicine Hat plant that will increase its methanol production from 470,000 tonnes to 580,000 tonnes by mid-2013.


Methanex is a company with a global perspective and a local focus. Its Canadian headquarters is in Vancouver, B.C. with methanol production facilities in Chile, New Zealand, Trinidad and Tobago, Egypt and Medicine Hat. It is the world’s largest supplier of methanol to major international markets in North America, Asia Pacifi c, Europe, and Latin America.


“We continue to invest in key value- adding initiatives to potentially increase production at our Medicine Hat plant,” says Kevin Henderson, Vice President, Global Manufacturing.
