Methanex is the largest global supplier of methanol. Methanol is a simple form of alcohol made from various sources, but in large quantities from natural gas. Methanol is one of the main compounds used to drive industrial production around the world and has various uses. Methanex
began operations in Medicine Hat in 1975. It shut down its plant in the city in 2001, and restarted it again in 2011. Its current annual production of methanol in Medicine Hat is 118,000 tonnes. A $30 million expansion to the plant was announced in 2012. Methanex is heavily involved in the Medicine Hat community supporting various local organizations and causes. Its namesake Methanex Bowl at the Family Leisure Centre is the premier football field in southeast Alberta.

TELUS started as Alberta Government Telephones (AGT) in 1907 and was incorporated as TELUS Corporation in 1990. It merged with BC Telecomm in 1999 and has continued to grow its presence all across Canada ever since. TELUS is now a major national provider of cellular products, mobile devices, internet
networks and telephone services. TELUS is also recognized as one of the most generous corporate donors in Medicine Hat; in recent years making substantial donations to the Family Leisure Centre and the Medicine Hat and District Health Foundation among other local charities.

The Alta. Newspaper Group owns the Medicine Hat News, Lethbridge Herald, Prairie Post and more than a dozen other weekly and monthly newspapers and magazines in Alberta and Saskatchewan with a combined circulation of over 100,000. The Medicine Hat News is a daily paper which has been published in the city since 1885. The Medicine Hat News supports various causes
in the Medicine Hat area, donating $750,000 a year to community groups and events and sponsoring the annual Santa Claus Fund. The Santa Claus Fund has helped 8,000 local families and 25,000 children in its 30-year history.
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is considered one of the most recognizable brands and valuable companies in the world. Wal-Mart is found in 27 countries and has over 10,000 retail outlets world-wide. The current Wal-Mart Superstore location in Medicine Hat opened in 2008 and remains Medicine Hat’s most successful retail outlet. It
is also Medicine Hat’s single biggest private employer. Wal-Mart supports the Medicine Hat Food Bank, the local Salvation Army and various other community organizations and groups throughout the city on an ongoing basis.
