Foods. A move to the light industrial area followed in 1987 and 20 years later the business moved to its current location just east of Medicine Hat. In 2009, Weddingstar doubled the size of the building to its current size.
Brink gets a laugh out of looking back at where he and his company came from, remembering that at one time product would go out in old diaper boxes because he would scavenge dumpsters to get free boxes.
"It never hit me to go and buy boxes," he says with a laugh. "It was just, 'I don't have the money, so I've got to make it work.'" He also learned about import duties and taxes the hard way, recalling he had to get a bank loan to pay for his first container that came in.
"I didn't realize I had to pay all those duties and taxes," he says. "I was pretty raw as far as business sense goes, as any kid just starting out would be. I had to learn a lot along the way, but it's exciting to see where we're at knowing where we came from."

A Weddingstar "magalogue" (a magazine and catalogue combination) can now be found on newsstands all over the world next to "Modern Bride" and "Martha Stewart Living" and the Internet has helped the company reach all corners of the world.
"We can see from our sales we're shipping to more than 100 countries," he says. "Brides are the same all over the world. They're looking for something that's unique and something that's different."
