PEER TO PEER Holiday Wish: Remote Start Sales
THE PROBLEM: I’m looking for a few good marketing ideas to really get the most out of the holiday season. We are on the East Coast and, of
course, we’re hoping for a stronger remote start season than last year. But I don’t want to depend on the weather. I would love to get some ideas from other retailers on how they plan to maximize holiday sales.
POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS: Create a Contest: “With marketing, cheap or free ideas seem to work best for us. Facebook is a solid performer as well as
Google Adwords. You could run a promotion where someone has to write why someone in his or her life deserves a remote start. Then, find a way to publish the letters and choose a winner. Do the remote start for free and make a run off of the publicity.” — Parish Tanner, Ocala Car Audio, Ocala, Fla.
Change With the Seasons: “Promote remote starts for the answer to a year-round weather change. Your customers surely do not stop using their remote starters in the spring, so why do you promote them as a winter season accessory? Make the remote starter valuable to your customers as a year-round accessory and add to them all the multiple technological advantages. These technology “add-ons” will increase your bottom line and make this remote start season better than last year.” — Brent Hunter, Kingpin Car & Marine Audio, Wilsonville, Ore.
Team Up: “I’m looking at making a discount card to give to tire shops to hand out as a bonus to customers buying winter tires
(we don’t do tires or wheels at all). They can use it as a tool, and we get related word of mouth advertising.” —Tony Dehnke, Driven Audio, Abbotsford BC, Wash.
Update Early and Daily: “Every day, I get to the shop 45 minutes before we open. This gives me time to set up email blasts, update our Facebook and Twitter accounts, Craigslist, our blog, etc. Traditional paid advertising has never worked for us, but creat- ing top-of-mind awareness through free channels has done a great job.”
— Ryan Pepsin, SRQ Custom Autosound, Sarasota, Fla.
Emphasize on Website: “I think the single, most cost-effective method is working on getting your website’s remote start page to score effectively in your local market. This would also mean you would have to have a well-written, informative remote start page on your site.”
