a well-oiled machine in the eyes of your customer. Put the MECP certification documents for your entire crew up on the wall to show your shop’s initiative in using industry standards. Having standards and procedures for all actions in the shop will quickly differentiate your shop from others in the area. Using disposable floor mats or seat covers gives your customers confidence you will be taking great care of their vehicle. Service Professionals — Every member of the team should meet and greet every person they come in con- tact with while working with a smile and an offer of assistance, demonstrating the team commitment to customer service. A small investment in matching shirts with your store or company logo goes a long way in build- ing credibility with the customer. Proper explanation and documentation of all services provided will make your customer more secure with their purchase and will likely lead them to return to your shop for additional work they need performed. Keeping good records of a customer’s transactions, and maybe even a photo of their car, will allow you to give them a more personalized experience when they visit you again.

Professional Athletes — Every person in your pro- fessional team is a professional athlete. They have skills and passion for their ‘sport,’ and each of them should strive to refine their craft at every opportunity. Their desire to learn more, to become more efficient and to perform better will create an environment of friendly competition within your business and make all members become better. If you have the right crew assembled, they will feed off one another’s energy and continue to grow through Advanced and Master MECP certifications, automo- tive service certifications and experience in a variety of installation types. Remember, customer perception and industry and

MECP recognition start with you. If the members in this industry do not act like top-notch professionals, how can we expect the public to regard us as such? Remember to look at your business through your customer’s eyes — do you see professionals look- ing back at you ready to serve? And ask yourself the hardest question you can — Would you bring your car there to have an installation performed? n
