T
he lime-green Lambo in the Sony booth at this past KnowledgeFest showed off Sony’s GS line as well as its new
MirrorLink-equipped head unit, but it also repre- sented the coming out party for FQ Motorsports, a 7-month-old speed shop in Addison, Texas. Owned by Nhan Vuong, FQ Motorsports got its name from two words that describe the ultimate goal of anything produced in the service bay: Freaking Quick. “I have always been a car enthusiast,” said Vuong.
“It was kind of a hobby, but I am passionate about it.” Vuong attended BMW technical school right after
high school and was a Master Technician and shop foreman at a BMW dealership for the last nine years before making the jump into retail. “I just got tired of the corporate world and wanted to be in an actual business—out on my own,” he added. Like most car audio retailers getting into the business, Vuong relied on his expertise with ve- hicles to research starting his shop, and did the legwork to figure out the business side of the startup process. “My background working with BMW for such a long time was a huge help,” he said. “I had an understanding of how things were going to work and just went from there.”
