But for now, Vuong did come through with something special for his team. “To thank them for all their hard work through KnowledgeFest, I offered all of my guys tickets to Formula 1 race at The Circuit of The Americas in Texas this year,” he said.
GETTING SERVED IN STYLE FQ Motorsports is much like a studio shop in the mobile electronics world as much of the policy and procedures are based on the experience of the owner. Vuong oversees every job and is the fi- nal say on whether a vehicle is ready to be returned to the customer. “Customer satisfaction for us is something that we rank very high—it is something that I learned while I was at BMW,” he said. “Those are high-end cars we’re working on and everything –every little detail— has to be right.” Vuong added that he plans to implement written policies on vehicle handling and quality control in the near future.
Though FQ is smack dab in the middle of the country, the shop specializes in European and Japanese cars, partially because of Vuong’s experience, but also because of a market advantage. “Be- cause of where we are, there are a lot of shops that specialize in domestic cars, Vuong explained. “So most of the cars we work on are from BMW, Mitsubishi, Porsche, Lexus, Nissan and Subaru.” The shop offers a two-year warranty on all its work, and follows the manufacturers’ warranty for parts and equipment.
THE SHOP ON DISPLAY Growing up going to local car shows,
Vuong based his marketing strategy on being visible at the very same venues he frequented prior to shop ownership. “Every month we try to go to every show that we can,” he said. Between $500 to $1,000 is allotted each month for costs involved to enter the shows and get staff to the events. One of the best shows, ac-
cording to Vuong, is Cars and Coffee in Plano, Texas. The events are held on the first Saturday of every month and draw as many as 600 cars on display—every- thing from the commercial to the exotic. One of the biggest accomplishments for the shop to date is the completion of its yellow 458 Ferrari. The vehicle is heading out to the upcoming Consumer Electron- ics Show which is held every January in Las Vegas. Sony is a big part of the company’s promotion efforts. The shop installed the new GS line of products in Vuong’s Nissan GT-R. “We took it to the DUB Show in Atlanta last August and worked with our Sony rep to have the vehicle shipped to the show since it was so far away,” Vuong said. “Our partnership with Sony has helped us this year to be suc- cessful and then, of course, there are all of my employees,” he said. “There are a lot of late nights and lots of long days, too.” n
